Sisters Through Boxing (STB) is a co-designed Boxercise programme aimed at helping young females live happier more confident lives. It is a peer led “go to” service, whereby its key objective is to tackle the issue of youth loneliness, through increasing social connections. This is achieved through not only sport, but peer led discussion and the “New Beginnings” toolset that helps young females understand, address and overcome loneliness and its associated causes.FIND OUT MORE ABOUT BOXING FUTURES >>
Through improving self-confidence and increasing high quality social connections the project goals are to establish a community of friends, who help and support one another both in and out of training sessions. They will leave a training session feeling safer, closer and more able to reach out for help with pride and confidence
Each STB programme lasts six months (24 sessions), where Boxercise is used as a “common ground” upon which new friendships can be developed within the group, as they work towards achieving their Bronze Boxercise Award. In conjunction with the physical side of a session, “Sisters” will work through the “New Beginnings” toolset, where they will evaluate, discuss, address and manage their progress to developing and maintaining new and existing social connections. The toolset will also help to understand and resolve current feelings and experiences of loneliness. After completing the initial six-month programme, “Sisters” can join the Alumni training group to maintain and make new friendships, whilst also peer mentoring new participants entering stage one of a new programme.
